Wool is a renewable and biodegradable fibre grown naturally on sheep. It is hypoallergenic so excellent for babies with sensitive skin. We use the finest Merino Wool for its itch-free softness and its durability, and choose not to mix it with synthetic fibres.
Tiny air pockets naturally found in our wool garments trap heat, keeping your child warm in cooler weather. These same wool fibres will wick sweat away from the skin and to the surface of clothing, where it can evaporate if your child is too warm.
We are committed to using the softest natural materials for all of our clothing. Our cotton is organic with a long staple for strength, smoothness and durability. We use 100% cotton for our t-shirts, shirts, trousers and dresses. Often we’ll blend cotton and wool to vary the warmth and texture of our knitwear. In line with our purpose to limit negative environmental impact, we stay well away from the harmful toxins sometimes used to colour garments.
Why Organic Cotton?
Conventional cotton farming features dangerous pesticides, insecticides and fertilisers that contribute to environmental degradation, pollution of drinking water and rivers. These chemicals are also costly, sometimes driving farmers into debt or forcing them to grow without profit.
In contrast, organic farming principles encourage growers to work with nature in a sustainable way. This means maintaining soil fertility through crop rotation and watering predominantly with rain rather than irrigation. Rotating crops provides farmers with diverse income streams and food for their families. The seed variety results in a long staple cotton that is resistant to pests and provides high yields for the growers.
Aravore was founded on the principle of sustainability. Despite the higher cost of buying organic cotton, we are committed to its use throughout our range. It’s better for biodiversity, the environment and for the farmers who grow it.
Aravore uses 100% organic cotton spun by Promover S.A - Aratex Organica (certified organic and fair trade by IMO - Switzerland). The merino wool is spun by hilanderia Capen in Argentina and it is certified organic by OIA (Organizacion Internacional Agropecuaria) according to EU 2091/91 organic standards.
